Brake Street

Brake Street is the working title for a novel that I started in 2003.  It is set in and around a small fictional town outside of Birmingham, Alabama called Manor Falls and tells the unique stories of the diverse people who reside there.  The cast of characters runs the gamut of imaginable personalities and personality disorders, but as different as may be, all it will take is one day to show them just how similar they all are.

The story begins in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina when one of Manor Falls’ most outlandish residents is worried about the fate of his estranged mother who no doubt refused to leave her home in the Lower 9th Ward.  Gordon Beauchamp, who is also known as drag queen Beneatha Skirtt at a nearby Birmingham night club, is only one of the residents whose lives are changed forever when bigotry and hatred shake this small town to its foundation.

This portion of the web site is devoted to my work on Brake Street and will include excerpts and character bios in the near future.  Stay tuned!
